China’s Top 10 Classic Games of This Generation

About a month ago I put out a list of the Top Gaming Franchises of this console generation, as picked by bloggers at QQ. Today they put out another list of the 100 Classic Games of this generation, which includes those games that are not a part of a franchise. By “this generation” they mean the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360, and those PC games that were released within that time frame. I won’t list all 100—instead I will only give you the top 10.

However, keep in mind that, in a poll asking users how they felt about the list, 49.66% (1,749 users) said that the list was “totally unfounded nonsense” and is the product of the “core association” trying to find a sense of superiority. This is compared to only 7.52% (265 users) that thought the list was fair, with few problems. 24.19% (852 users) wondered whether the Portal series was worthy of first place, and 18.63% (656 users) thought it was “unscientific” for LOL to be in 82nd place. DOTA, meanwhile, was placed at 38.

Regardless, here’s what the Top 10 Classic Games of this Generation are:

10. Minecraft
9. Dead Space
8. Dark Souls
7. Little Big Planet
6. Mass Effect series
5. Borderlands series
4. The Walking Dead
3. Gears of War series
2. Uncharted series
1. Portal series

I actually don’t think it’s much different from what a Western blogger would choose. For instance, Bag of Games also picked Mass Effect, Uncharted, Dark Souls, The Walking Dead, and Portal for their Top 10 list—Portal was even number one for them as well. IGN also listed Uncharted, Portal, and Mass Effect in their list. Incidentally, the primary concern among users wasn’t that the list of 100 games completely lacked any Chinese-made games, but that it lacked games like Warcraft 3, FIFA, Counterstrike, Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Command and Conquer, Diablo, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, or the TNT series of games (). Of course, many of those weren’t created during this console generation so they’re not eligible for the list, but apparently not including these titles for any reason is enough to throw a list into “totally unfounded nonsense” territory.
