Olympic Champion Chen Yibing will attend the July 23rd Star Charity Gaming Challenge

Though the United States only recently officially recognized League of Legends Championship Series as a sport, the Chinese State General Administration of Sports has recognized LoL as a sport for some time, going as far as to form an e-sports national team to participate in the Asian Indoor Games. Even China’s most renowned athletes support e-sports– Olympic gold medal champion in gymnastics, Chen Yibing, will be attending the Star Charity Gaming Challenge on July 23rd in Shanghai.

The Star Charity Gaming Challenge (明星慈善电竞挑战赛) is a charity event meant to provide toys to left-behind children in China’s rural midwest region. The event is organized by Tencent and the Amity Foundation (China’s largest charity organization) and will feature celebrities from sports, entertainment, and gaming who will be there to appeal to the public to help children in need. Additionally, the event will offer activities, sports, entertainment, and, of course, a League of Legends competition with a focus on positive sportsmanship.

Chen Yibing is a twenty-eight year old gymnast, winner of two gold medals in the 2008 Olympics and one gold medal and one silver medal in the 2012 Olympics. He also has eight world titles and is considered the second best gymnast on the rings ever.
