QQ Games has been releasing a list of “Most Anticipated PC Games” by genre since the Chinese New Year on the 31st of January. The first list was for most anticipated shooters, the second for simulation games, and today they released their list for most anticipated role-playing games. Each list contains 15, 8, and 30 games respectively; I’ll only list their top five, though I’ll link to the full article—they always include a picture for each game, so some of you should be able to identify each one (consider it a test of your gaming expertise).
- Titanfall
Respawn Entertainment, after encountering some hardship, is finally launching their debut game this year. Unlike other similar games, the game’s concept consists of piloting different types of mechs into battle. - Wolfenstein: The New Order
Machine Games will be reviving one of the original first-person shooter games in this new installment of Wolfenstein. The story is set in 1960 in an alternate-history where Nazis have won World War II, and you play as an American war hero in Europe trying to regain control of super weapons from the hands of the Nazi legion. - Paranautical Activity
Obviously paying respect to Doom and Quake, players must eliminate all kinds of horror monsters in a closed-off environment. The game is fast-paced, with an insane and enthusiastic battle atmosphere. - Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots
In this game, the Rainbow Six squad faces an attempt to overthrow the US government by a terrorist group calling themselves the “True Patriots”. Although the game was revealed a long time ago, the development team at Ubisoft was replaced meaning this should be a new movement in the series. - Prey 2
Written as similar run-of-the-mill dystopian game, the protagonist is US Marshal Killian Samuels who becomes a bounty hunter on an alien planet. The game’s primary art style is black crime and cyberpunk. According to rumors, after a strike by Human Head studios production was given over to Arkane Studios.
- IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad
Players must fight in air during the Battle of Stalingrad, in the time period of Operation Uranus against the German 6th Army siege. The game offers a very realistic flying experience, as well as being loaded with limitless, detailed educational flying content. - Sims 4
The gameplay is essentially the same as previous installments, but it pays more attention to shaping emotions. The game will provide more intelligent and emotionally rich characters, more powerful creative tools, and vivid visuals. - Space Base DF-9
If you enjoyed Star Trek Deep: Space Nine, do not miss this. In this game, you will strategize and manage resources to build your own space base, creating a suitable living environment for a community of humans and aliens alike. - Star Command
This is a lovely cartoony sci-fi strategy game where players must first build a starship, hire a crew, rationally allocate supplies, then embark on a journey to explore the universe, go to war with aliens, and train your crew to upgrade your ship. - Mew-Genics
Team Meat has developed a strange cat breeding simulation game, where players go from breeding to training in order to eventually cultivate a pageant-winning beauty. The game’s creativity sounds very unique, with a style that blends elements, of The Sims, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Tamagotchi.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Developed using the new REDengine 3, the game is the final chapter in white-haired Geralt’s trilogy. The game will answer all questions raised in the previous installations, with cynical humor and some sexiness, and a lot of countryside legend. - Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls
Players must protect the city of Westmarch from fallen angel Malthael’s undead army, saving the inhabitants and dispersing evil. The expansion will feature a new adventure mode, new events called Nephalem Rifts, as well as a new class, a new artisan, a new level cap, and new items. - Might and Magic X: Legacy
Even though Ubisoft wasn’t very interested in reviving this old role-playing series, thankfully Limbic Entertainment put in every effort to build this large-scale grid-based first-person role-playing game. - Underrail
Stygian Software obviously get a lot of inspiration from games like Fallout, Metro 2033, Arcanum, Neverwinter Nights, and other games, ultimately creating an old school turn-based role-playing game. - Wasteland 2
After a lapse of 27 years, this player-funded new installation is expected to finally launch. The game retains the old turn-based combat system, with highly customizable player-designed characters, and integration of the classic black humor style—with the greatest sincerity in honoring its Fallout roots.
